8 février Just an aside...I know most of you wont play poker, andthose of you who do probably cant be arsed to read it, but i already wrote it in an email, so i am putting it on here to maximise the use of my time...
THE BLOG ON THE WILLIAM RODRIGUEZ MEETING WILL BE WRITTEN SOON, BUT NOT TODAY-IT WAS AMAZING THOUGH- THE GUY IS A BONA-FIDE HERO FOR MORE THAN ONE REASON.
[Background: i have an online account and i play a few times a week to try to supplement my earnings. as yet i am not supplementing my earnings, but my bankroll is still intact, so no harm etc... i think that the more i practise, the more likely i am to get good enough to win some money. I usually play multi table tournaments of anything up to 350 ppl, as the payout is good relative to the number of players and hands that one plays. As yet, playing on my own, i havent won a tourney, and i have actually only been on a final table once (out of around 10-15 tourneys, but that is perhaps to be expected with the size of the field). So read on-or read something else, lmao... if you dont know poker, the following will be gibberish to you so i have highlighted the salient points]
I won a multi table tournament... BUT before you get the champagne out, i won a $5 tournament with... drumroll... 11 players, haahaahaaaaaaa wel, at least i have done it, and i think i did it well- i took very few real risks, and i think i loosened up at the right times... here's my recollection of the key hands [it's worth a read].
Started 5 handed Hand 1: JJ on the blind, raised it, low flop, continuation bet, no flush, no straight showing and took the pot on the turn Hand 2: AA... raised it(a little less) pre-flop and again there was a nice low flop... played it more gently. at this point the tables merged and so i knew everyone would see this. Took it to the river, they stood up and i then had 2400 in my stack. Hand 3: J6 on the button, family pot, no raise so i called, and no raise. flop: 6J8 maybe two spades, i bet half the pot, someone raised all-in so i called.. me and him, he had 6d8d... up to over 4 grand. Hand 4: AK off suit... raise to 400, everyone folds, i show, then play one or two hands per orbit for about 30 mins... That was literally the first four hands... WOW- my heart was beating by then!
Later on i got stung in a few pots and by the time we were down to 6 i was about 1940... AK again, board AJQ and ended up winning with a better straight when ten hit on the river.. back up to 3500
Four handed i raised the weakest player and he re-raised all in, i had 45 off, but i thought what the hey and hit trips against his Ax evn though it paired. That was my only real mistake, i think- although i perhaps allowed myself to be pushed off some pots by checking/betting small.
heads up was great fun i ended up playing rag kings time and again and hitting top pair with my kicker...
Final hand: i took down with queen 8 and top pair with queens stood up although he nearly dtew to the straight
RESULT? won $25, lol
not bad for an hour and a half's (fun) work, but not a living, is it?!
